Cosmobilis and Park Square Capital acquire WRC commercial rights in landmark motorsport deal

French automotive group Cosmobilis and private credit investor Park Square Capital have completed the acquisition of the commercial rights to the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and FIA European Rally Championship (ERC), according to a report by Reuters.

The long-term agreement follows the acquisition of Munich-based WRC Promoter GmbH, with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) describing the transaction as the largest commercial deal ever completed for the two championships. Financial terms were not disclosed.

For Park Square Capital, which manages more than $22bn in assets, the investment expands its presence in the sports and media sector, with the firm set to provide both capital and strategic support to accelerate the commercial development of the championships.

Market sources had previously indicated that the acquisition of WRC Promoter could be valued at less than €500m.

Former Formula One team principal Eric Boullier has been appointed chief executive of WRC Promoter following the transaction. He will oversee efforts to strengthen the commercial profile of both championships, with a focus on expanding their global audience and enhancing the fan experience.

The FIA said the investment represents a milestone for the sport, reflecting confidence in rallying’s long-term growth prospects and creating opportunities to further develop the WRC and ERC as international sports properties.

Boullier said the new ownership group intends to build each championship round into a stronger global event while aligning the series with evolving technological and environmental priorities.

The WRC currently features a 14-round calendar spanning four continents. The championship is expected to enter a new era in 2027 with the introduction of next-generation technical regulations, providing the new owners with an opportunity to capitalise on renewed interest in the series.
