State of Climate Tech Q3 2026: Equity Rebounds as Debt Retreats
Climate Tech companies raised $19.6B in the third quarter of 2026, 7.6% less than in Q2. On its own, that number suggests a slowdown. The detail behind it tells a different story: equity rose 17%, every equity stage grew, and the dip came almost entirely from asset-backed debt.

Built on the data tracked by the Net Zero Insights platform, the report breaks down where Q3 capital went. Here are four trends that stood out, and what you will find on each in the full report.
1. Venture equity rebounds as debt retreats
Equity funding reached $15.8B in Q3, up 17% on Q2 and about 26% on Q3 2025. Asset-backed debt roughly halved to $3.1B, which is why total funding eased to $19.6B. Deal count kept falling to 686, the fewest since 2021: more equity, spread across fewer deals.

2. Growth across every stage, led by Series B
Every equity stage grew quarter on quarter. The standout was Series B, up 50% to $3.6B, reversing the weakness it showed through 2025 and into 2026. That matters for companies that need that round to move from pilot to first commercial deployment.

3. Firm power is the defining theme of the quarter
Fusion, fission, geothermal and storage raised about $6.3B across 17 rounds in Q3, including three $1B rounds for Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Valar Atomics and Base Power.

4. The US pulls ahead as exits cool
The United States led with $8.8B of equity across 184 deals, up 36% on Q2, followed by the United Kingdom ($1.5B, up 74%) and China ($1.4B, down 18%). Exits cooled after a strong second quarter, with 78 against 99 in Q2, and M&A still made up about 78% of them as IPO and SPAC routes stayed narrow.
